Changing Faces of Indian Fashion

How long has it been since you first looked at that saree displayed at the boutique near your home? A few days, a few weeks, or a couple of months altogether? Agree to it that you had an eye on that saree since the first day you were amazed by its glow and thought how you would look in that attire you still dream of? Don’t worry, it’s not just you and me who keep pondering about all the fashion-related things. There are many Indians with us. So, when did this mentality of our peers arrive in this country? There were some designers before the 80s but the earliest spurt of growth dates back to the 1980s. India, this huge country has a large variety of traditional clothing with variations hailing from one location to the other all within the country. It’s all a result of globalization and exposure to different countries around the globe. It’s also for the annual fashion shows and events like India Fashion Week and Lakme Fashion Week.

We Indians have a great potential to keep up with the latest fashion trends and embrace ourselves with it. The Indian fashion industry offers many benefits to all the hard-working and enthusiastic persons involved in it. Apart from the fashion designers, it includes fashion photographers, garment constructors, fashion stylists, fashion public relations, fashion writers, fashion visual merchandisers, etc. who all get a whopping amount of scope and earnings. Overall, if you think of pursuing your career in something related to this stream, you’re making a correct decision.

If we consider the market value of our fashion industry, you would surely be amazed to know the statistics. According to McKinsey’s FashionScope, by 2022, India’s apparel market will be worth $59.3 billion 2022, making it the sixth-largest in the world, comparable to the United Kingdom’s ($65 billion) and Germany’s ($63.1 billion). According to Sanjay Kapoor, founder of Genesis Luxury, an Indian luxury retail conglomerate, “We are moving on toward the ‘gold collar’ worker. It’s a term that defines the well-paid, highly paid professionals, who are happy to look good, happy to feel good, and are expanding the consumption of today.” These values give us an idea about the evolution of 300 plus fashion brands in India.

In a nutshell, despite several barriers like structural challenges like market fragmentation, India offers whooping benefits to all who pursue something related to this Industry. This is a great promise and a great choice to opt for.
